At our first union meeting of 2025, Business Agent Dan Cassidy officially announced his retirement after 37 years of service (10 as a business agent) to our union.
“I’m happy for him, but selfishly, I don’t want to see him go. I was lucky to work with my brother both in the field and in the office and let me tell you…Dan was excellent in every position he held, and he always made our union proud,” says Local 2 Business Manager, Jim Cassidy.

Local 2 Insulators has always been a family business for Dan. Originally introduced to the union by his uncle Rick Suchma, he has served as a proud member for almost 4 decades. Over the last 10 years, he has served as a Business Agent, thanks to a nomination by brother Warren Tolbart.
“Local 2 has provided me with this great career that has allowed me to take care of my family. I am so grateful for our membership having faith in me to represent them,” said Dan Cassidy.
As Dan reflects on his time with our organization, he thinks about his many accomplishments, both in the field and in a leadership position. His proudest accomplishments in his tenure were keeping up with manpower needs during the cracker boom and trying to get people out to work during and after Covid. Now that Dan is moving on to retirement, he has a simple but valuable message for the future leaders of Local 2.
“I would like to say: fight for what you believe is right, ask questions, and treat people the way you like to be treated,” says Cassidy.
Retiring after 37 years is a bittersweet moment. While he is certainly looking forward to spending more time with his family, he knows that there are some things about his career that he will deeply miss.
“The people! I will miss all the people and the friends that I have made at this job. So many dedicated union brothers and sisters have become lifelong friends. It was a pleasure to work alongside people that I truly care about,” says Dan Cassidy, when asked what he will miss the most about the job.

Dan Cassidy has achieved many successes in his years with the Insulators. When asked how he was able to reach these goals, he attributed it to the amazing support system that he had around him throughout the years.
“There are just so many people that have motivated and supported me to be the best at what I do: Christine Cassidy, my wife, who has supported me since day one, my sons, Carl and Danny, who inspire me and make me proud every day, by doing their jobs and becoming the men they are supposed to be, my parents, for keeping me on the right path my whole life, my brother Jim for always being there to listen and help solve issues.”
When you see Dan, make sure to congratulate him, and thank him for his service to Local 2!
